Property taxes
I do not believe we can keep asking working families and retirees to shoulder more and more of the load. We need spending discipline and a more balanced approach to funding local government.
Independent Candidate for County Commissioner District 1
I live here, I care deeply about the future of McIntosh County, and I believe county government should be easier to see, easier to understand, and easier to hold accountable. Taxpayers deserve to know how decisions are made, how money is spent, and how those choices affect their homes and families.
What this campaign is about
My campaign is about restoring trust and balance in county government. I believe McIntosh County should live within its means, operate in the open, and grow responsibly.
I do not believe we can keep asking working families and retirees to shoulder more and more of the load. We need spending discipline and a more balanced approach to funding local government.
If the public pays for government, the public should be able to see how it works, understand how decisions are made, and be heard before those decisions are final.
I believe growth should be managed with a plan. That includes taking decisive action on long-standing problems like the abandoned outlet mall and making sure development serves the community.
Why property taxes hit harder here
Property-tax increases do not affect every county the same way. Compared with neighboring coastal counties, McIntosh has lower household income, higher poverty, an older population, and more senior households. That means increases from assessments, millage, or both hit harder here.
Before county government asks taxpayers for more, I believe it should prove that every dollar is necessary, every decision is transparent, and every alternative has been considered.
Looking Glass
Looking Glass is a public reporting system for McIntosh County taxpayers. It brings together tools that help residents understand budgets, taxes, assessments, millage rates, and spending decisions. The Property Tax Report Card is one tool inside Looking Glass.
Open Looking Glass Open the Property Tax Report CardIf assessments rise and the millage rate is not rolled back enough, taxpayers can still pay more. Looking Glass is meant to help separate assessment-driven increases from millage-driven increases, and to show where the money comes from and where it goes.
